Zip Code Look up service provides an easy way of finding out the city, county and the latitude/longitude of a zip code. This service and database are freely distributing. Once more, we have added a service and made it available for the development community. Some of the dialing codes are out-of-date because they keep on changing. The zip codes however, are accurate as of year 2001.

Data for the Zip Code Database was obtained from GIS shapefiles. Data for Zip code polygons was overlaid on the state, county and telephone area code shapefiles. All of these shapefiles were then merged using geo-spatial analysis tools in ArcGIS. The Latitudes and Longitudes for Zip Codes marks the centroid of the Zip Code polygon.

The Zip Code database sells for around $300.00 and does NOT cover all the details that this database covers (such as the telephone area code, lat/long, state code and FIPS etc.). The Zip Code database can be downloaded from the Developer Zone.

The following information is available in the database:

  • 5-Digit Zip Code
  • State Name
  • State Code (FL etc.)
  • State FIPS
  • Name of County in which the Zip is located
  • Zip Name
  • Zip Type
  • Zip Code Area in square miles
  • County Area in square miles
  • Telephone Area Code for each Zip
  • Longitude and Latitude
